Summer 2021 Flyer
Science and Psychology for Academic Success (SurPASS) is designed to help students succeed academically. Instead of teaching core subjects, we educate students through psychology.
Our goal is to teach students how to do well in both school and life. Being skilled in academics is important, but so is knowing how to deal with stress.
We will use research and studies to teach students why a concept works and ways to apply that in their lives. Middle school students and above are encouraged to join our sessions.
As a high school student, I've noticed that schools often place more emphasis on academics than mental health. Parents and teachers often want children to score highly, which is understandable. However, competitive environments that lack mental health support can lead to high stress levels.
In fact, 75% of students in high school rated themselves as “often or always stressed” by schoolwork in a study.* After taking AP Psychology, I started applying much of the content to my own life.
For instance, I used memorization techniques to remember content better. When I was stressed, I thought about different biological reactions and ways to overcome them. Social psychology allowed me to understand both myself and other people better, helping me with interpersonal interactions. I hope that through SurPASS, more people can learn about these, leading to healthier academic success.
