Summer 2023 research program

Pranav is a hardworking student and loves psychology and biology. He’s trying to pursue a career in engineering or law. His favorite hobbies are going for long walks and listening to music. One day he hopes to change the world for the better.

Zachary Heisler is junior at Sequoia High School and the marketing officer for the 2023 ABLE Summer Internship program. He is interested in public policy, finance, and business. He play varsity tennis for

his school and some of his hobbies are biking and hanging out with friends.

 Oviya is an ambitious high school student with a strong foundation in communication, leadership, and professionalism. She is seeking to channel her expertise into the field of data science and engineering to drive innovation and solve complex problems. Her leadership experience has led her to want to use her knowledge and skills to make a positive impact on the world. 

I’m Sophia Stento, a rising senior at Alameda High School and secretary for the ABLE Summer

Internship program. I play lacrosse, enjoy going to the gym, and am interested in the

intersection of human rights and policy; with an eye to law school.

Rishav Saravanan is an aspiring Researcher working on various independent projects to stimulate creative learning and benefit society. Rishav goes to Dougherty Valley High School and is always willing to expand his knowledge of the Sciences. Some divisions of Science he specializes in are the Physical Sciences – specifically Chemistry and Physics. In his free time, Rishav enjoys exploring other disciplines in the arts such as baking.

Nischay is a talented high school student with an intense passion for robotics and artificial intelligence. He plans to pursue research in these fields and hopefully construct a business with the goal of decentralizing access to frontier technology. In his free time, he goes fishing with friends and lifts weights.

Hi, I’m Hubert Tan! I am a student intern for Dr. Sherry Hu’s summer research internship. I am a

junior at Valley Christian High School and I am the Communications Officer of ASB

(Associated Student Body), the president of the DECA (Competitive Business Club) and The

Taylor Swift Literacy Club, and also a Teacher’s Assistant for Honors World Literature. Some of

my other passions include the performing arts, gymnastics, dance, and music where I enjoy

writing and composing my own songs with my guitar. I have won three national titles for

gymnastics and eight medals at the USA Gymnastics Championships in total. I am very

passionate and interested in finance and business and was able to delve further in that area in my

presentation and paper!

Kai is a rising senior at California Academy of Math and Science located in Long Beach

California. Some of Kai’s academic interests include physics, math, and chemistry. Outside of

school Kai likes to hang out with friends, play soccer, lift weights, and bake.

 Hello! My name is Pranav Saravanan, and I am a current junior at Dougherty Valley High School. As a young student, I remember always finding my passion in helping others in my community. I remember always helping my neighbors out in their yards and occasionally assisting my peers in assignments they didn’t understand—one of my favorite hobbies as a young student was volunteering in food pantries and shelters.  Science has always intrigued me from a young age. Its revolutionary results and interesting systems have always piqued my interests. Especially the Medical Field. Medicine's various subjects and pathways fascinate me. During these times, many viruses have affected a major population of humans. These pathogens have weakened us. My dream is to live in a community with no pathogens to harm any living being. Due to this dream, I have always done Science Projects with the goal to erase pathogens from our world. I have created various projects to broadcast my passion for our environment.
